After the Windows 10 October 2020 update, there have been some foundational changes that are not going down well with some users. For instance, the new Alt+Tab task switcher now shows a live preview of windows in big thumbnails. Many users want to restore the old Alt+Tab task switcher so we have written a detailed guide on it. Similarly, Windows 10 now shows all Microsoft Edge tabs in Alt+Tab switcher by default which is really frustrating while cycling through apps. You never know where you are going to land. Remove Microsoft Edge Tabs from Alt+Tab Switcher
1. Press the Windows key once and search for “multitasking“. Now, open “Multitasking settings” from the top search result.
2. Next, look for “Pressing Alt+Tab shows” under the Multitasking page and open the drop-down menu.
3. Here, select “Open windows only“. If you want to reduce the number of Microsoft Edge tabs then you can do that as well.
4. Now, simply close the Windows Settings window, and you are done. Now onwards, individual Edge tabs won’t appear on the Alt+Tab switcher.

Thank you so much! This is more terrible behaviour by Microsoft being Microsoft. I thought it was an Edge feature too, but apparently this is a Windows feature that ONLY applies to Edge and no other browsers, so if you theoretically wanted to use for Chrome you’re SOL because Microsoft likes their monopolies. But even so, I don’t know why you would – control tab is for tabs within an application, alt-tab for applications! It’s been a long standing standard for a long time and really stupid for Microsoft to break.
