Strands’ hither-and-tither gameplay has had me hooked for over a month now. I just can’t seem to get enough of it, and today’s NYT Strands puzzle is a great example of why. Even if you think that you’ve got it, you probably don’t. So, if you need help, here are some hints and all the answers for the April 15 NYT Strands.
What is the Theme for Today’s NYT Strands?
As revealed by the New York Times, the theme for today’s Strands is “This and that”. It’s all in the theme today and it’s rather clever, I’d say.

Every Strands game has that one Spangram that you need to decipher and today’s was no exception. The hint for today’s Spangram is – “Phrases like to and fro“.
Theme Words Hints for Today’s Strands
If you have figured out the Spangram from the above hint, figuring out the theme words will be easy. However, I don’t want to ruin it for you. Instead, here are two theme word hints that may help you:
- Hint #1: related to hit and miss
- Hint #2: synonymous with ‘wheeling and dealing’

The Spangram for today’s NYT Strands puzzle is PARTNERS, and it runs from top right to bottom left on the letters grid.

If you have scrolled this far, you are probably ready to see the answers. So, let’s take a look at today’s theme words in Strands:
- TRIAL
- ERROR
- GIVE
- TAKE
- PEACE
- QUIET
- SMOKE
- MIRRORS
Phew, there were quite a few theme words to unravel in today’s Strands. Well, the “this and that” theme made me think of the to-and-fro phrase right away. When I didn’t find that, I found GIVE and TAKE separately on the grids. That confirmed my understanding of the theme and helped me find TRIAL and ERROR as well as SMOKE and MIRRORS.
I still wasn’t sure what the Spangram was and thought of it to be some unknown thing you call these phrases. Well, once I found PEACE and QUIET as the last two theme words, PARTNERS as the diagonally-running Spangram was an easy find.
