What is “Connections”?
NYT’s ‘Connections’ is a puzzle game that’s all the hype on social media these days. You will find people solving and sharing their successes and failures on platforms like X (formerly Twitter), and more. The game is managed by Wyna Liu, NYT’s associate puzzle editor. Connections gives players 16 random words that must be divided into categories they don’t know.
What Are Today’s Connections Hints?

Answers for Today’s Connections Game (July 7)
Are you still stuck with the Connections puzzle? In that case, the answers to today’s Connections are:
- CHANGE STATES OF MATTER – Condense, Freeze, Melt, Vaporize
- REPLACEMENT – Alternate, Backup, Cover, Sub
- SLANGY NAMES FOR PROFESSIONS – Copper, Hack, Shrink, Suit

The NYT Connections puzzle for July 7 continued its scientific streak along with Mariah Carey for some reason. So I again began by solving the Yellow category the first but thankfully had quicker luck this time. The Green category came first and was actually easier to solve.
The Blue category did offer some trouble but combining shrink and suit made me realize what the connection was.
With only four words left, I got them all together to get the Purple category and the NYT Connections puzzle for July 7.
