Connections is a New York Times puzzle game where players have to figure out “connections” between various words and arrange them into groups of four. The Connections puzzle today was a bit too specific for my taste. To help you out, we decided to break down all the categories and answers for the Connections puzzle for July 1.
What is “Connections”?
NYT’s ‘Connections’ is a puzzle game that’s all the hype on social media these days. You will find people solving and sharing their successes and failures on platforms like X (formerly Twitter), and more. The game is managed by Wyna Liu, NYT’s associate puzzle editor. Connections gives players 16 random words that must be divided into categories they don’t know.

Answers for Today’s Connections Game (July 1)
Are you still stuck with the Connections puzzle? In that case, the answers to today’s Connections are:
- SHOW THE WAY – Direct, Guide, Lead, Usher
- SCHEME – Con, Hustle, Racket, Sting
- SEEN ON A U.S. DOLLAR Bill – Eagle, Pyramid, Seal, Washington
- FIRST WORDS OF CANADIAN PROVINCES/TERRITORIES – British, Northwest, Nova, Prince
The Connections puzzle for July 1 had a Purple category that nobody could have gussed. I began by solving the Yellow category the first and also learned that the word Usher actually means to lead. The Green category came next and all I could of were the words Ponzi Scheme when solving it. That helped actually.
The Blue category on the other hand was a bit of a stranger since I am not really used to U.S. currency. Nonetheless, nothing some Googling couldn’t solve.
With only four words left, I combined them all together to get the Purple category and the NYT Connections puzzle for July 1.
