In Short
  • Nothing has announced two new audio products — the Nothing Ear and the Nothing Ear (a).
  • The Nothing Ear will be targeted at audiophiles whereas the Ear (a) will be for regular usage.
  • The company will unveil its new audio products and share more details on April 18, 2024.

Those who follow the consumer tech space know that Nothing stepped foot in the market with an audio product, the Nothing Ear (1) back in 2022. Since then, the brand has launched three phones and two truly wireless earbuds. The company has just announced that it will go all in on audio and launch two new audio products on April 18.

We recently covered the meaning behind the teaser image Nothing posted on X (formerly Twitter). The image had Ear (2)’s mascot, a Beetle, and a new frog mascot leapfrogging the beetle, which we speculated to be an upcoming audio product, and it sure is.

Nothing Ear and Ear (a) Launching Soon

Nothing has announced that it will bring two new audio products to the market — Nothing Ear and the Nothing Ear (a). The former will be “designed for meticulous audiophiles” while the latter will be your “Everyday Buds.”

While we expected the company to launch Nothing Ear (3), the London-based company has hit a reset on the naming scheme with its upcoming audio products.

Nothing is rebooting the naming scheme, and the info on the community post reads, “Our devices are built to last so we recommend identifying what matters to you in an audio product and starting from there. No nomenclature-based upgrades.”

Does that mean there won’t be any future iterations of these devices? If yes, how can Nothing say it’s “going all in on audio?” Guess we’ll only find out on 18 April.

Nothing asked WIRED to post the announcement and told them that the upcoming Nothing Ear will feature a new ceramic driver to deliver a crispier sound and better bass frequencies, whereas the Ear (a) will have better noise cancellation (45db from 40db on the Ear 2).

However, that’s all we know about the upcoming TWS earbuds. We have many questions regarding the “no-nomenclature” statement, the new naming scheme, and the audiophile-grade Nothing Ear, which will only be answered on April 18.

What are your thoughts about Nothing’s upcoming earbuds? Have you used any existing Nothing audio products? How has your experience been? Let us know in the comments section below and read through our review of the CMF Buds by Nothing.
