Sticking to its promise of regular software updates for its Nokia-branded smartphones, HMD Global has now started rolling out the Android April Security Update for the Nokia 1.
The Nokia 1 runs Android Oreo Go Edition, which has been built specifically for low-end devices and comes with a promise of timely updates, which Nokia seems to have delivered on. According to a report from NPU, the April Security Update for the Nokia 1 is 142MB in size and also focuses on improving overall system stability.
The report states that Nokia 1 users in India and Iraq have started receiving the update, but we haven’t received the update on our device and it’s still stuck on the January Security Update as of now. HMD Global has been quite consistent when it comes to releasing software updates for its devices, which indicates that this is a phased roll-out and all devices should receive the update in the coming days.
It’s worth noting that the April Security Update for the device includes a fix for a critical security vulnerability in the Media framework which could potentially allow a remote attacker to use a specially crafted file and execute arbitrary code within the context of a privileged process. Therefore, we recommend all users to update their devices as soon as they receive the update.
The Nokia 1, which was first unveiled at MWC 2018 earlier this year, is the cheapest Android device from HMD Global and runs Android Oreo (Go Edition). The smartphone features a 4.5-inch display and is powered by a MediaTek MT6737M processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. The device also includes 8GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 128GB using the microSD card slot. The device also features a 5MP primary camera and a 2MP selfie shooter. All of the internals are powered by a 2,150mAh battery which delivers great battery life in day-to-day usage.
