Yes, the company was not able to generate enough revenue to keep the email client going as it just informed its users that it will be shutting down its email subscription service on September 25, 2018. That is a very sad news for all the Newton email users out there, however, there’s nothing that we can do about it. This might seem like an obvious choice but before you scoff at it, hear me out. Gmail is probably the biggest email provider in the world and if you own a Gmail account, you should certainly give its native app a chance, especially if you have not used it in a while. Just recently, Google released a huge update to its Gmail apps (web and mobile) and now they offer a ton of new features which was not previously present. One of the biggest change coming to Gmail is new redesigned user interface. The new user interface looks sleek, modern, and overall very pleasing to eyes.
Once you get over the looks, you will find the new Gmail features quite exciting and useful. Firstly, there’s a new offline mode which allows users to save the Gmail data for 7, 30, or 90 days on their computers which can be accessed even when they are offline. Users will also be able to compose emails which will be sent as soon as their machine is connected to the internet. Another important feature is the new “Confidential Mode” which allows users to send self-destructing emails. Then there are other features including a smart unsubscribe feature, hover action buttons, smart compose, nudging, and more. There’s a lot here and if you have not used the Gmail app and web in a while, it is a high time that you try it out.

2. Microsoft Outlook
One of the biggest features of Newton mail was that the app was available for all the major platforms, desktops and mobile alike. Well, if that’s the reason you chose Newton over other email clients, and you cannot see yourself using Gmail’s web app on the desktop, how about you give Microsoft Outlook a try. Just like Newton Mail, not only Microsoft Outlook is available for Android and iOS devices but you can also find its native apps for Windows and macOS. That means no matter which device you are using, you will be able to use the same email client.
When it comes to features, Microsoft Outlook is probably the most feature-rich email client that you can find. It is even better if you are an Office 365 subscriber. My favorite Outlook features include bill pay reminders, quick reply, draft folder sync, office lens technology on Android, multiple time zone supports, calendar integration and more. Outlook also features the convenient swiping gestures which are found in the Newton mail app allowing users to quickly go through their emails. I will accept that Outlook comes with a little bit of learning curve, however, if you are ready to invest your time in it, you will find it much more powerful than any other app on this list.

3. Blue Mail
Blue Mail is probably one of the most popular email clients in the market. The app brings a ton of power user features and makes it really easy to tackle your emails. My favorite feature of the app is its organizational structure. The app automatically categorizes your emails into different categories such as family, services, groups, and more. Blue Mail calls this feature clusters and it makes it really easy to categorize emails. I also love the “Group Mail” feature which allows you to create groups of recipients so that you can send emails to the entire group with a single click.
Other important features include the ability to use multiple accounts, snoozing emails, instant push notification for important emails, calendar integration, dark theme, and more. Currently, Blue Mail only offers iOS and Android apps, however, the company is working on both Windows and macOS apps which are slated to release very soon. In fact, if you are reading this article a month or so after it is published, chances are that Blue Mail desktop apps have already launched. Blue Mail is a great third-party email client and I am sure you are going to love it.

4. Inbox By Gmail
Inbox by Gmail is one of the best-designed email clients out there and I love it. The app looks refined and I am in love with its user interface. Somehow, I am able to find the emails far quicker on Inbox by Gmail than on any other app out there. I especially love its “Bundles” features which neatly organizes all my emails into different categories including promos, purchases, trips, and more. I like these categories very much as it allows me to easily track my upcoming trips of online purchases.
One great about these bundles is that Inbox by Google allows users to create their own bundles, which really gives a powerful boost to this feature. Other important features of the app include highlights which shows important emails at a glance, the ability to snooze emails, using reminders, and the ability to pin important emails. Inbox by Gmail takes quite a novel approach towards email and that makes it different from the myriad of email clients out there. However, that also means that this app is not for everyone. That said, whether it’s for you or not is something you will only find out once you use this app.

5. Spark Mail
Spark Mail is my favorite email client on this list. However, since it’s not available for either Android or Windows, it is only suitable for users who are inside the Apple ecosystem. Spark Mail is very well designed and looks beautiful. It also packs a ton of features which are not found in any other email client on this list. One of my favorite feature of Spark Mail is the ability to customize and use swipe gestures to quickly go through my emails. Spark also intelligently categories emails into different categories which makes it easier to get to important emails while ignoring newsletters, promotional emails, and more.
My favorite feature of Spark is its smart search feature which allows you to get as granular as you want so that you can quickly find the emails that you are looking for. I also love that Spark integrates with third-party apps such as Trello, Evernote, OmniFocus, and more, allowing you to send your emails to your favorite task manager or note-organizer apps. While the app is totally free to use, the company recently launched a new paid tier for business users which bring exciting features such as the ability to collaborate while creating emails, threaded comments right inside emails, create links to email, and more. This is one of the best email clients out there and if you have a MacBook or an iPhone, you should certainly check it out.

6. PostBox
PostBox markets itself as an email client for power users and it certainly packs a punch. The best part about this email client is that even though it brings a ton of features, users are not overwhelmed with them as they have the control. It is them who can decide what they want to use and what they don’t. PostBox never forces a user to use all its features. That being said, if you really want to justify its price and make use of all the power that it brings, you will have to use its features. Using PostBox as a normal non-power user is like taking a gun to a stick fight. You will win, however, you never needed that much power.
PostBox’s features include the ability or organize emails using tags, filters, and contacts, sending large files over emails using Dropbox, Box, and OneDrive integration, pre-canned responses, editing in HTML, integration with hundreds of apps such as Trello, Slack, Evernote, Asana, and IFTTT, and many more such features. PostBox also has little nifty features which make the whole email experience even better. My favorite one is its ability to highlight recipients if I am using the wrong email account. I can’t tell you how many times this feature has saved from embarrassment in the past. If you want superpowers to deal with emails, PostBox will give it to you.

7. Edison Mail
Edison is a very good third-party email client which is present on both Android and iOS platforms. It is a powerful email client which puts heavy emphasis on automation. In fact, the app comes with a built-in assistant which can do many things including unsubscribing you from those pesky newsletters which annoy you. Edison Mail also features a super-fast search which allows you to instantly search inside all your accounts from a single place. The mail client is also exceptionally fast at loading emails so that you don’t have to wait even for a second. There are also your usual features such as smart categories, custom swipe control, smart notification, and more. The only problem with this app is that it neither has a native or a web app which you can use on a desktop. That somewhat limits its functionality. However, if you just your phone to deal with your emails, you should certainly take a look at this app.

It’s sad that Newton Mail was not able to survive in this market. Since there are so many free email clients out there, it is not hard to imagine that Newton Mail didn’t generate enough revenue, however, it is hard to digest the news.
