What is the Lucky Locator in Fortnite?

The Lucky Locator is one of the many Extraction Gizmos in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3. When activated, the Lucky Locator scans the map and marks the location of a buried Sprite Chest on the map, which is guaranteed to contain a Sprite you have not collected yet.

This makes the Lucky Locator the best tool to have in your inventory if you are missing rare Sprites like the Cube Sprites or the John Wick Sprite in your collection. However, remember that the Lucky Locator is different from the Sprite Locator, which does not guarantee a Sprite you don’t have inside the pinged Sprite Chest.

How to Get Lucky Locator in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3

You can only get the Lucky Locator in Fortnite through the Sprite Mastery track by reaching Mastery level 50 in Chapter 7 Season 3. Much like the Sprite Locator, the Lucky Locator cannot be found in loot containers like chests and ammo boxes. At the time of writing, players can only get one Lucky Locator through the Sprite Mastery track, with Epic likely adding more as the season goes on.

Since the Lucky Locator is basically a cheat code to finding Sprites you do not have, Epic has intentionally made the item incredibly sparse and rare, keeping it absent from quest rewards and even extraction site portals.

The Lucky Locator is also an account-bound resource, which means that other players cannot take your Lucky Locator away from you after eliminating you in a Fortnite match. However, remember that using a Lucky Locator to mark a Sprite Chest’s location and then getting eliminated will lead to you losing the Lucky Locator entirely.

How to Use Lucky Locator in Fortnite

You can use the Lucky Locator by equipping it through the Fortnite gizmo wheel in Chapter 7 Season 3 and activating it. The Lucky Locator functions almost exactly like the Sprite Locator, sending out a pulse across the Chapter 7 Season 3 map and marking a Sprite Chest for you to uncover. Here are the steps you can follow to use the Lucky Locator:

• Press and hold Y/Triangle on your controller or L on your keyboard while holding your pickaxe to open the Gizmo Wheel.
• Use the right stick or your mouse or controller joysticks to select the Lucky Locator.
• Press RT/R2 or left-click while you have the Lucky Locator equipped to activate it.
• Spot the marked chest location and head towards it.
• Once at the Sprite Chest, hit the spot with your pickaxe to dig it out.
• Collect your Fortnite Sprite and use a Portable Extractor to extract it as quickly as you can.
