• Harvest Crops and Wild Plants: Find wild open areas on the map with minimal trees to spot wheat, flowers, and berry bushes. Harvest or break them, and you will get the Essence of Life.
• Chopping Trees and Natural Resources: Chopping down trees not only grants you logs, sticks, and tree sap, but also gives you a chance to get the Essence of Life.

1. Trading with Essence of Life

In order to trade with the Hytale NPCs, you must head over to the Forgotten Temple first and use the portal in the basement. To reach this area, you can open the map and follow the icon that looks like a white whirlpool.

In the basement, you will find a stone golem guarding the blue portal. You can either choose to fight it or make your way past the golem to use the portal. It then transports you to a brand new world that almost seems like paradise. Take the stony path to find the Rootling Merchant NPC just in front of the memories feature.

Interact with the merchant by pressing the ‘F‘ key to view all the items for sale. Now, if you have enough Essence of Life, you can trade them for raw food, cooked skewers, and other basic survival supplies. Note that the list of items refreshes every few days, so don’t forget to take a look again to find the supply you need.

2. Craft Farming and Animal Tools with Essence of Life

Apart from trading, the Essence of Life can be used for crafting items in Hytale. This includes the Feed Bag, Capture Crate, Saplings, and so on. All of these items can be found on the Farmer’s Workbench, which you can create using any Tree Trunk and Plant Fiber on the Workbench.

Crafting the Feedbag requires wheat, vegetables, fruit, and 10 Essence of Life. It is perfect for early farms to control the animals, gather, and tame them as well. Whereas, Capture Crate, used for capturing and transporting small mobs, can be crafted from any wood and 50 Essence of Life.

Furthermore, you can also craft a Chicken Coop, Fish baits, fertilizer bags, fishing traps, all sorts of seed bags, saplings, planters, and other decorative items from the Farmer’s Workbench.
