Harry Potter movies may have been over, but their legacy lives on with other projects. Previously, HBO confirmed that a Harry Potter television series is in the works. It will tell the same story as we saw in the movies, but it will feature an entirely different cast. Here’s all you need to know about the Harry Potter TV series cast members, including the actors playing the new Harry Potter trio.
Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter

Now, here comes the lead boy, Harry Potter, who entered the world of magic and changed everything. He lost his parents at the hands of Lord Voldemort, who somehow couldn’t kill him, and that one incident gave Harry the title of ‘the boy who lived.’ Harry Potter was one of those rare students who got entangled in the mysteries of Hogwarts that everyone else wanted to stay away from.
No one knew the real name of Daniel Radcliffe when he was cast for the role. The global fandom recognized him as Harry Potter for a very long time. Well, it looks like Dominic McLaughlin has landed on the same boat after bagging Potter’s role in the upcoming series.
Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley

Ron Weasley was the true definition of friendship; he never judged our beloved Harry. Instead, he and his family showered him with immense love that he had never received from his relatives. Even though Ron didn’t have even a percent of Hermione’s smartness and Harry’s bravery, he was the most reliable and grounded one in the trio. The primary thing that made him popular among the viewers was the humor and unwavering love that he had in his heart.
The character was originally played by Rupert Grint, who made the role a massive one. The HBO series will see Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, and we are sure he is going to make our favorite red-haired boy a success, too.
Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger

Hermione Granger is said to be the smartest witch of her age, who knew how to tackle even the do-or-die situations using her brain. She is one of the students who doesn’t have to try hard to excel, even in challenging classroom lessons. Hermione is the true definition of beauty with brains, and she proves it a million times whenever any threat looms over her friends or Hogwarts.
Emma Watson portrayed the character in the original film series, and now, Arabella Stanton will carry forward the legacy of the character in the Harry Potter series. Stanton started her acting career with the West End’s Matilda The Musical in 2023.
John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore

Originally played by Richard Harris and Michael Gambon in the Harry Potter films, Albus Dumbledore is one of the most significant characters. He is the perfect mentor and the epitome of hope who protects Hogwarts and its legacy from threats. Dumbledore also mentors Harry Potter in his battle against the Lord of Darkness, i.e., Voldemort. Three actors have portrayed the character so far in the Harry Potter cast, and now, finally, we will see the six-time Emmy-winning actor John Lithgow stepping into the shoes of the iconic character. The actor confirmed the huge news in an interview with Variety in February 2025.
Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid

Here comes another fan-favorite character of the franchise. He is the one to help Harry achieve what he was born for. To be precise, he is the one to tell Harry about his wizarding roots and help him escape the torturous life that his relative gave him. Later, he becomes a member of the golden trio, Harry, Hermione, and Ron. Whether they want to share their victory or their sorrows, Hagrid always shows up. Hagrid blessed Harry with all the love and warmth that he had always craved.
Robbie Coltrane played Hagrid in the Harry Potter movies, and he was the sole reason for the character’s fame. Now, HBO has confirmed Nick Frost has been included in the Harry Potter TV series cast to play Hagrid.
Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall

Like Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall cares extremely for Hogwarts and its students, and she can go beyond her limits to keep them safe. She is the pillar of integrity and strength that makes her an ideal mentor for the students of Hogwarts. She initially served as the no-nonsense deputy headmistress and later became the headmistress of the School of Wizardry and Witchcraft. Like Hagrid, she never fails to guide Harry Potter as she is very well aware of the boy’s potential. She also becomes his shield plenty of times to protect Harry from falling prey to Snape’s conspiracies.
Maggie Smith portrayed the character in the Harry Potter movies, and Fiona Glascott played her role in Fantastic Beasts. Now, it has been confirmed that Janet McTeer has been cast officially for the role of Minerva McGonagall.
Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape

Severus Snape is one of the most complicated characters J.K. Rowling has blessed us with. Initially, he seems to be a true antagonist, but as the story moves forward, we realize that he is a man driven by love, guilt, and redemption.
Earlier, it was Alan Rickman, who made Severus Snape one of the most-remembered characters from Harry Potter, and now, it’s turn for Paapa Essiedu to be included in the Harry Potter TV show cast as the misunderstood professor. Harry Potter TV series’s showrunner and executive producer Francesca Gardiner has confirmed that Severus Snape will be played by Paapa Essiedu.
Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell

Professor Quirinus Quirrell played an important role in Harry’s first year at Hogwarts. He was the antagonist in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, who was possessed by Lord Voldemort. In fact, in the books, he was turned into a temporary Horcrux. In the movies, the role of Professor Quirrell was played by Ian Hart.
Now, it has been confirmed that the Harry Potter TV Series cast will feature Luke Thallon in the role of Professor Quirrell. Luke is a British actor best known for his outstanding performance in stage plays and theatres. He received a nomination for the Evening Standard Award in 2017 for his incredible acting in Albion.
Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch

Who could forget Argus Filch and his beloved cat, Mrs Norris, in Harry Potter movies? Argus Filch was the Caretaker of Hogwarts School and played a rather notorious role. Filch was a squib in Harry Potter lore. For those who are unaware, Squibs are non-magical persons in the Harry Potter universe who are born to at least one magical parent.
The character of Argus Filch was played by David Bradley. Now, for the Harry Potter TV series, Paul Whitehouse has been cast in the role of Argus Filch. Paul is a Welsh actor with some major accolades to his name. Paul Whitehouse is known for his performance in Rudy Hell! It’s Harry and Paul, a sketch comedy, for which he won the 2011 BAFTA Award for Best Comedy Programme.
Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley

Katherine Parkinson steps into the shoes of Ron’s mother, Molly Weasley, who was originally portrayed by Julie Walters. Parkinson gained attention with her performance as Jen Barber in the British television sitcom series The IT Crowd, which ran from 2006 to 2013. She has also appeared in several films, stage shows, and television projects.
Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy

Lucius Malfoy was the father of Draco Malfoy and a wizard who believed themselves to be superior due to their pure-blood origins. He was Voldemort’s second-in-command, who slipped Tom Riddle’s diary into Ginny Weasley’s bag, contributing to the opening of the Chamber of Secrets. When Lord Voldemort returned after being killed once, Lucius served him as a Death Eater.
In the films, Jason Isaacs portrayed the character, and now, Johnny Flynn is all set to replace him in the anticipated television series. Flynn is a British actor whom we know as Dylan Witter from Lovesick, David Bowie in Stardust, and Dickie Greenleaf from Ripley.
Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy

Unlike his father, Draco Malfoy also looked down on the Muggle-borns and half-bloods. Coming from a family of bullies, Draco developed an instant rivalry with Harry on their first day at Hogwarts. After Lucius failed in his duties, Lord Voldemort chose Draco as a replacement, but he also couldn’t live up to the villain’s expectations.
Tom Felton as Draco Malfoy in the films was amazing, and we expect the same from Lox Pratt, who has bagged the opportunity to portray the significant character in the series. Besides Draco, the young actor will be seen as Jack in the upcoming BBC One series, Lord of the Flies.
Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley

Petunia Dursley was the elder sister of Harry’s mother, Lily Potter. After Lily developed the powers of a witch and got enrolled at Hogwarts, Petunia broke contact with her. After Lily and her husband’s passing, she became the local guardian of their only son, Harry. However, she never treated the boy with love, though.
Fiona Shaw played the character in the films, and now, it’s time for Bel Powley to step into the shoes of Harry’s abusive maternal aunt. The actress has previously worked in Turn Me On, Cold Copy, Savage House, and more.
Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley

Petunia’s ill-mannered husband, Vernon Dursley, never missed a single opportunity to scare Harry Potter. He disliked the boy greatly and often treated him like a piece of trash. Vernon lived with his family in Little Whinging, Surrey, for 20 years, and after that, he, along with Petunia and Dudley, were forced to go into hiding during the Second Wizarding War.
Richard Griffiths was an impeccable actor who made us hate Vernon with his great acting skills. Now, the English actor Daniel Rigby takes on the responsibility of carrying forward the legacy, and we hope he lives up to the standards set by Griffiths.
Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge

Cornelius Fudge wasn’t a major antagonist, but he was kind of a villain, who took great pride in his powers. He was the Minister for Magic, who didn’t let Albus Dumbledore and Harry alert the wizards and witches of Hogwarts about the return of Lord Voldemort.
The British actor, Bertie Carvel, will play the character in HBO’s Harry Potter Series. We know the actor from Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, The Crown, Doctor Foster, and more.
Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown

Lavender Brown received the letter from Hogwarts at the age of seven. She was a witch who joined Dumbledore’s army, led by Harry Potter, and fought the war against Death Eaters in her fifth year. She also dated Ron Weasley for some time. The newcomer Sienna Moosay will be seen portraying the character in the television show.
Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil

Hailing from India, Parvati Patil was a witch who was sorted into Gryffindor house while her twin sister Padma was chosen by Ravenclaw. She shared the room with Hermione and Lavender and eventually became the latter’s best friend. Like her best friend, she also fought in the war against the Death Eaters and Voldemort. Shefali Chowdhuri portrayed the character in the films, and now, the newcomer Alessia Leoni will appear as Parvati Patil in the upcoming series.
Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan

Seamus Finnigan was an Irish half-blood who didn’t believe Harry Potter’s claims about Voldemort’s return. However, he eventually became a member of Dumbledore’s army and fought against the darkness.
After appearing in The Late Late Toy Show, the newcomer Leo Earley is all set to play Seamus Finnigan in the Harry Potter series.
So, these are all confirmed and rumored Harry Potter TV series cast. We will keep this article updated as new rumors or official confirmations follow.
