Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 will Come with ECG and Fall Detection

In the world of smartwatches, the Apple Watch reigns supreme. However, Samsung has been contesting the Cupertino giant for that crown over the last few years with really good smartwatches like the Galaxy Watch, and the latest, Galaxy Watch Active.

Now, the South Korean giant is working on its upcoming smartwatch — the Galaxy Watch Active 2 — and SamMobile is now reporting on some of the new features that the Galaxy Watch Active 2 is going to get.

First off, ECG — like I said, the Apple Watch reigns supreme in the world of smartwatches, and Series 4 brought along ECG capability to the Apple Watch. It only makes sense that Samsung wants to bring this feature to its upcoming smartwatch offering as well, and if SamMobile’s sources are to be believed, the company is not only bringing ECG support to the Galaxy Watch Active 2, it’s also bringing A-Fib notifications, exactly like the Apple Watch Series 4.

Apart from that, SamMobile is also reporting that the Galaxy Watch Active 2 will come with Fall Detection too — a feature that once again, is found on the Apple Watch. With Fall Detection, the Galaxy Watch Active will be able to detect hard falls when it’s being worn on the wrist and will most likely ask the user if they are alright — if they are, it’s great, but if the user doesn’t respond, the watch will probably send notifications to their family and friends (a configurable list of people, for sure). The watch might also call emergency services such as 911 on its own, if the user doesn’t respond after it detects a hard fall.

The Galaxy Watch Active 2 is expected to keep a design tone similar to the current Galaxy Watch Active, and not include the rotating bezel from the Galaxy Watch, and the Gear S3. It’s also rumored to come in both 40mm and 44mm sizes for different wrist sizes.

As of now, there’s no information about when Samsung might launch the Galaxy Watch Active 2, or what it will be priced like; however, an announcement alongside the Galaxy Note 10 seems like a possibility. We’ll find out on August 7 when the company launches the Note 10 in New York.
