Arrakis in Dune Awakening might be an unruly, Sandworm-infested desert with blood-thirsty scavengers skulking across every grain of sand (that includes you as well). But that doesn’t mean you’re exempt from paying taxes. The Emperor has the planet in his clutches, and if you don’t cough up your fief, you can look forward to a visit from the merciless Sardaukar. The game does a sub-par job of explaining this mechanic, leaving some players entirely unaware of its existence. With this in mind, we’ve put together a guide on how to pay your taxes in Dune Awakening.
How to Pay Your Taxes in Dune Awakening
To pay your taxes in Dune Awakening, head to a social hub such as Arrakeen or Harko Village and talk to the Imperial Tax Collector. You’ll see an option to pay your taxes in the conversation options box. Keep in mind that all of your sub-fiefs are taxed, meaning the total amount you owe increases with the number of bases you set up. Thankfully, you can choose to pay off a single sub-fief at a time, or clear your debt altogether if you have the coin.
On Arrakeen, the tax collector can be found on the ground floor in the northwestern part of the area. His Harko Village counterpart also sits on the ground floor, except he’s in a room in the southeastern corner instead. To find their locations, bring up the map and you’ll be able to spot their pre-marked icons.
Depending on your progress in the game, getting to Arrakeen or Harko Village can either be costly or hassle-free. If you own an Ornithopter in Dune Awakening, you can simply fly to these social hubs. But if you haven’t acquired the vessel, you’ll need to use the Ornithopter taxi service. These are quite easy to find, and you can learn more about them in our dedicated fast travel guide. With that being said, every ride to a settlement will cost you 2,500 Solaris, so make sure to bring along some extra currency.
Lastly, you can check the amount of tax you owe by interacting with your sub-fief console. We recommend doing this before making the trip. Otherwise, your expedition to the social hubs will be a waste.
