Like rods in Fisch, Dig offers a variety of shovels that you can use in your adventure to find cool and rare items in the game. Not every shovel can have the perfect stats from the get-go and may require you to give it a boost to improve its performance. Sounds familiar, right? Well, similar to Fisch, Dig lets you enchant shovels using Enchantment Tomes to boost stats, like luck, haste, or control, and improve mutation chances to help you make more money.
What is the Enchantment Tome in Dig?
This magical world requires you to use enchantment tomes to enchant shovels in Dig. It is the only item you require to apply the various enchantments to your shovel at the Enchantment Altar in Azure Hollow in Cinder Cavern. The enchantment tome is a book with a glowing crystal on top of its cover.
How to Get Enchantment Tomes in Dig
While this item is quite rare, the two simple ways to get enchantment tomes in Dig:
1. Dig up Enchantment Tome as Loot
If you’re a beginner and your pockets are empty, you can only rely on this simple method to obtain enchantment tomes: continuous digging. Grab your best shovel, go to the best farming spot where you get cool stuff, and start digging.
Alongside digging up regular items, you can also find random loot, including basic crates, magnet crates, and enchantment tomes, from time to time. In our testing during Early Access, we got up to 3 enchantment tomes as additional loot while digging.

2. Buy Enchantment Tome
If you don’t wish to leave it up to chance, you can buy enchantment tomes by spending money in the game. The enchantment tome can be bought from the Dark Wizard in Dig.
You need to fulfill certain requirements before you can buy the item, though. First, you need to be Level 30 in Dig. Second, the Dark Wizard is a hidden NPC that appears during Summer nights only. Third, you need to have at least $15,000 in the game.
Once you meet these requirements, here’s how to buy enchantment tomes from it:
- First, head to Rooftop Woodlands and locate the tree with a wooden door (coordinates: 4401, 226, -628)
- Once there, knock on the door, and the Dark Wizard NPC will appear in front of it.
- Interact with the Dark Wizard and buy an enchantment tome for $15,000 in Dig.
Now that is a huge sum of money, especially in the early game, and it is not easy to save up when you have beginner rods. Therefore, this method is not suitable for complete beginners. Instead, I would suggest revisiting the Dark Wizard once you have made headway through our Dig shovel progression guide.
