For people who do not know how to apply these mods, you will only need to click on the link of the mod you want and subscribe to it. It will download and apply itself from the Steam workshop.

Some mods are not available there, so instead, we are including links to the mods. You should also download the Skyrim Script Extender. This will help in applying more complicated mods. So, now that you know how to apply Skyrim mods, here are the 30 best Skyrim Mods you should definitely try.

Essential Skyrim Mods

1. Relighting Skyrim

If you have played Skyrim, or you’ve just started, you must have noticed light coming from illogical sources. There are doors that emit light, or maybe there isn’t any realistic directional light. To fix this and make Skyrim more graphically appealing, you can apply this mod.

What this mod does is that it reprograms the game entirely to make lighting effects much better in the game. Light only emits from fires, stars, and other sources of light rather than basic non-luminous objects like benches and rocks.

These spells range from calling of basic objects to smashing enemies, to summoning ferocious tornadoes that suck everything in their path. These spells are designed very well and play well with the history and tone of Skyrim.

This mod ties in your armor and your weapons to bring realism. If you use a good shield, it can actually stop the attack completely. This means users need to be tactical and use both defense and offense if they desire victory.

Now a lot of you might not like the stock UI that Skyrim offers and I don’t blame you. The UI does feel a little bit clunky and you can easily get something a whole lot more intuitive by using a mod. really like the sounds of skyrim mod. makes it a whole lot more immersive.

  • DJ Mankewitz says:

Faalskar is high effort, definitely an impressive mod, but it is easily one of the most boring and janky experiences I’ve ever had. The world space is huge but there’s very little in it, just trees and grass and not even harvestable plants in many areas. Also be warned that it uses its own scaling for bandits which doesn’t work very well outside the 15-25 level range. It’s pretty jarring to be 1-2 shot by bandit archers at level 70.

  • Slimey1 says:

There will never be an easy way to mod Skyrim on the Switch, right? 🙁

    • OmegaSupremus says:

If the switch ever gets an easily accessible jailbreak for passing in custom homebrew files, its not actually out of the question. Skyrim itself is quite the flexible framework to begin with, and most mods don’t consist of much more than a few extra files injected into the game. From what I understand, the architecture on the switch isn’t that far removed from a stripped down pc operating system, much closer than most consoles. That tends to make things much more accessible to modders, but these things still take time to understand and then to create.
