Several moments in the ending might have left you perplexed by the complexity. So, if you want to know what happened in the ending of Arcane Season 2, be with us as we delve deeper into the details and shed light on all that you might have missed in the series finale.
Spoiler Warning: This post includes heavy spoilers for Arcane Season 2, now out on Netflix.
Introduces Three Different Timelines
In the second act of Arcane Season 2, we were concerned about Jayce, Ekko, and Heimerdinger as we had no clue what had happened to them after they disappeared from the Hex Gate’s basement. However, the final act gave us clarity regarding that.
Ekko arrives in a different reality and is shocked to see Jinx, Mylo, Vander, Silco, and Benzo. He also learns that Vi is dead in this timeline, and Powder still loves her elder sister the most.
It’s weird how he comes across Heimerdinger, who is also stuck in this timeline. He spends some time with Powder and his former friends at a party. Ekko dances with his childhood friend Powder, and we can sense a strange chemistry between the two. They eventually share a kiss, confirming the Timebomb ship.
However, Ekko knew he couldn’t stay here forever because it wasn’t his timeline. However, there’s one problem that he has to tackle before he can return home – Hextech. Apparently, Hextech wasn’t invented in this timeline, so he had to develop that technology to return to his timeline.
Ekko, with the help of Heimerdinger, invents Hexcore and uses it to develop a time reverse machine using Jayce’s theory and shocks Powder and Heimerdinger. The professor, sacrificing himself in the process, expands the Hexcore and sends Ekko back to the timeline where he belongs.
Viktor’s Redemption
Viktor helped Jayce create the Hexcore, but he decided to take a different path in Arcane Season 2 Act 1. In the third act, we also see him becoming a hurdle in Jayce’s path, but things take a U-turn when Jayce discovers that the one who pushed him toward magic was none other than Viktor.
To be precise, Viktor saved Jayce and his mother when he was a child because he knew that only Jayce could show him the reality in every timeline. In fact, in the future timeline, it’s Viktor who sends Jayce back to the original timeline.
Apparently, Viktor saw the damage he did to the world, and he knew that only Jayce could show him the reality. So, he helped Jayce in multiple timelines and followed a similar path, and the duo finally succeeded in the main timeline.
Ambessa’s Downfall
When Maddie brings Cait to Ambessa by pointing a gun at her, Vi’s cupcake snatches the gun from Maddie and tries to shoot her. However, Ambessa stabs her and makes her fall to the ground. Later, Maddie shoots a bullet at Caitlyn, but Mel shows up and kills the former with the same bullet that was meant for Cait.
Mel and Caitlyn try hard to fight Ambessa, but it isn’t until Mel touches the stone on her neck that Ambessa falls prey to the Black Rose Order. LeBlanc (still a mystery but the most plausible theory) is about to kill the warlord, but Mel helps her get back to the battlefield before she kills her. There, Mel’s mother takes her last breath, dying in her daughter’s lap.
Finally, Breaking The Cycle
Following the conflict in Act 2’s final episode, Vi returns to consciousness and enquires about Jinx from Loris. However, he asks her to go to Caitlyn as she will tell her about her sister’s whereabouts. When Vi approaches Cait, she learns that Jinx has surrendered herself for Vi’s safety.
When Cait takes food for Jinx in jail, the latter asks the former to kill her. Cait tells her that all of her good deeds can’t undo the crimes she committed earlier. Before Cait’s departure, Jinx says that she didn’t know that her mother was inside the tower when she unleashed her rocket toward it. Later, when Vi enters the prison to hug her younger sister, Jinx punches her and locks her inside, saying that she is going to ‘Break The Cycle.’
In the final fight against Viktor and Ambessa, Jinx saves Vi in the most fashionable way. However, just when we thought that both sisters could finally reunite, Warwick started attacking Vi. At that moment, Jinx knocks Warwick off the ramp, but the beast grabs the girl’s legs. Vi is holding Jinx’s hands, but the ramp is about to break, so Jinx decides to let go of her sister’s hand by ejecting the Hexstone in her gloves. Jinx ultimately falls to her death along with Warwick, or that’s what the show wants us to believe.
There’s a good chance that the girl has survived the fall. That’s because, in the final scene, we see Cait smiling while looking at the Hex Gate’s blueprints and air vents placement, implying or maybe wondering if Jinx has escaped through the vents.
In the final scene, we also see an airship leaving Piltover – that’s probably Jinx leaving everything behind and moving ahead to start a new life. Jinx knew Vi would never give up on her, but she wanted her sister to have a good life.
So, leaving Vi behind and letting her believe that she died is the best thing Jinx could have done to “break the cycle.”
