2024 iPad Pro vs 2022 iPad Pro

iPad Pro M4 (2024) vs iPad Pro M2 (2022): Specs Comparison

Apple has beautifully overhauled the design & display on the latest iPad Pro models. Compared to the 2022 iPad Pro, the 2024 Pros pack greater power in an even thinner & lightweight design. The standout features of the latest iPad Pro are the Ultra Retina XDR OLED display and M4 chipset. This is definitely an upgrade over the LED displays and M2 chipset found on the 2022 iPad Pro models. Besides some major differences, the 2024 and 2022 iPad Pros share an array of similarities as well. This includes the same cameras, the same color options, and more.

2024 iPad Pro vs 2022 iPad Pro: Should you upgrade?

Unarguably, the latest 2024 iPad Pro is a well-designed device that packs everything you would expect from a premium tablet. It has a gorgeous OLED screen, enhanced aesthetics, and a top-of-the-line M4 chipset to take everything to a whole new level. Be it watching videos, playing games, or drawing, the latest iPad Pro would deliver a flagship performance.

Also, the M4 chipset should fairly make the new iPad Pro future-proof. Honestly speaking, the OLED screen and M4 chipset are enough to call the 2024 iPad Pro a true upgrade. It’s hard to knock off the newest iPad Pro for what it offers.

That said, the 2022 iPad Pro also packs all the essentials a user would need. It features a nice design & display, the same camera systems, delivers amazing performance, and supports iPadOS 17. If you’re a casual user who’s only into browsing, light gaming, video conferencing, and drawing, you might not feel a huge difference between the two iPads. So, unless you’re a video editor or someone who’s into heavy-duty design, there’s no such need to upgrade. The 2024 iPad Pro is surely a worthy upgrade for heavy users or professionals.

If you don’t have one and are in the market for an iPad Pro, it makes all the sense to opt for the 2024 model. That being said, the 2024 iPad Pro will cost you at least $200 more. Remember, you might soon see some great offers on the previous iPad Pro models. When this happens, the old iPad Pro model might make a great option for most people.

Are you planning to upgrade to 2024 iPad Pro? Did you find the new features exciting? We’d love to hear from you in the comments below.

Kanika – thanks. You actually pointed to a key reason I am considering a 2024 13″ iPad Pro vs a 2024 13″ iPad Air. I do not have a iPad to upgrade from. You said that the M4 chip makes it fairly future proof (the 2024 Pro’s). In my estimation, iPad Air may get a M3 upgrade next year and maybe a M4 with OLED in 2026. So even though I don;t reallhy need the iPad Pro for intense work/design, it almost makes sense to go for the Pro just because their is such a gap to the specs of the 2024 Air. So in 2026, the Air should technically be about equal to the 2024 Pro. SO spending a $350/$400 premium right now ($200/year average) to get 2 excellent years with the Pro level hardware, almost seems like the best option – even though I don’t want to spend that much. I tend to also try to hold on to my devices for a good length of time. What do you think of how I am thinking of this purchase? Does that make sense (vs 2024 Air)? Thanks for any advice.
