During the final moments of X-Men ’97 Episode 9, Magneto puts his helmet on Professor X’s head to stop him from using his telepathic powers. However, this put the professor through a lot of pain, Seeing this, Wolverine stabbed Magneto in his back but was not able to kill him. Magneto then uses his powers to influence the Adamantium in Wolverine’s body. In the last scene of the episode, we see a still frame of liquid Adamantium ripping out of Wolverine’s body.

Episode 9 of X-Men ’97 seems to be taking inspiration from X-Men#25 released in 1993. In this comic, we see an epic fight sequence between Magneto and Wolverine, where at the end, Magneto uses his powers and rips out all of Adamantium from Wolverine’s body same as we saw in this episode. This almost kills Wolverine but thanks to his strong healing factor, Wolverine survives. So yes, this has happened in the comics.

How Does Wolverine Get His Adamantium Back in Comics?

Now the big question is, did Wolverine ever get his Adamantium back? Yes, after Magneto rips out all the Adamantium from Wolverine’s body, in Wolverine (vol. 2) #145 released in 1999, Apocalypse reinfuses Adamantium into Wolverine’s skeleton. In this comic run, Wolverine is captured by Skrulls working for Apocalypse and takes him to them. Apocalypse gives Wolverine a chance to get his Adamantium back if he defeats Sabertooth in a duel. However, if Apocalypse helps Wolverine, he will be conditioned to join him as one of his Horsemen, Death.

Wolverine does defeat Sabertooth and gets his Adamantium back but as per the conditions put forward by Apocalypse, Wolverine has to become one of his Horsemen. Wolverine took on the mantle of Death and served Apocalypse for a while until he was rescued by the X-Men.

Is Jean Grey Dead in X-Men ’97 Episode 9?

Another major event that took place in this episode was the apparent death of Jean Grey. We see that Mister Sinister has somehow got Cable under his control. When Jean is in combat with Mister Sinister, he summons Cable who starts attacking Jean with all his might. Since Cable is the son of Madelyne Pryor who was a clone of Jean, Cable has strong telekinetic powers as well which at a point overpowered Jean’s.

We see that Jean connects to Cyclops but soon, everything becomes red and the connection is broken implying that Jean was killed. Just like Magneto, we did not see her dead body in the episode so there is a strong possibility that like him, Jean Grey is still alive and the attack from Cable just knocked her out pretty badly.
