The Strands today saw me sighing every two seconds. I hadn’t even gotten over yesterday’s misery yet, and the Strands today left a bad taste in my mouth. While the theme wasn’t hard to decode, the letter grid didn’t favor my luck today. Anyway, I made it through, albeit not gloriously, and here are the hints and answers for April 4’s NYT Strands.
What is the Theme for Today’s NYT Strands?
As revealed by the New York Times, the theme for today’s Strands is “Consumerism”.
While the theme today may seem pretty straightforward, we were certainly fooled. I don’t know if it’s got to do with our brains shutting down for the day or just the awkward letter placement in the grids, but something certainly made today’s Strands miserable.

List of Theme Words for NYT Strands on April 4
If you have scrolled this far, you are probably ready to see the answers. So, let’s take a look at today’s theme words in Strands:
- CHIPS
- BREAD
- BACON
- CLAMS
- DOUGH
- CABBAGE
- LETTUCE
Today, I first came across CHIPS as the first theme word and went blank after. But, a colleague who was passing by looked at the grid and found BREAD and BACON, silly me. Now, I thanked him and moved back to staring at the grid like an empty vessel. So, I decided to use a couple of hints.
Once I did, I almost decided never to solve Strands again. The first hint highlighted CLAMS and the second, DOUGH. That paved the way for me to find LUNCHMONEY as the Spangram for today. It was only after that I found LETTUCE and CABBAGE followed in succession, and that concluded my miserable game for the day.
Today, I used two hints and felt all too dumb. Can we please go without using any hints, sigh. What about you? Did you have a tough time-solving today’s game as well? If not, how many hints did you take? Let me know in the comments down below!
