Earlier this year at the IFA 2018 trade show in Germany, Huawei gave the world the first look at EMUI 9 based on Android 9 Pie, alongside the launch of its Kirin 980 chipset and the Huawei AI Cube.
The latest version of Huawei’s custom Android ROM, which is expected to debut with the launch of the Huawei Mate 20, includes a bunch of new features that were introduced with Android 9 Pie, along with a couple of enhancements from Huawei.
Among the most interesting changes coming with EMUI 9 is its focus on localization of the software for Indian users. With the new software update, Huawei will be adding support for 28 regional languages, a localized calendar, a new Ride Mode and, most importantly, deeper Paytm integration for faster payments.
At a recent EMUI 9 media briefing in Bengaluru, Anupam Yadav, Deputy General Manager – Product and Solutions at Huawei Telecommunications India, highlighted the Paytm integration and revealed that users will be able to make faster payments using just their fingerprint.
EMUI 9 will allow users to register a fingerprint dedicated to Paytm and unlocking their device with that fingerprint will take them directly to the Paytm payments page.
With the implementation in place, users will no longer have to unlock their device, open the Paytm app and navigate to the payments page, thereby eliminating two steps from the process and making it significantly faster.
Other than the localization changes, EMUI 9 brings a new nature-inspired immersive UI with natural sounds, support for easier one-handed operation, intuitive gesture navigation, faster app launch times, improved touch response, a new password vault and a lot more. For all the mobile gamers out there, EMUI 9 will also introduce GPU Turbo 2.0 with better optimization for more games and a more capable Game Mode with support for truly uninterrupted gaming performance.
