Doom The Dark Ages Chapter 9 picks up right from the Mine Entrance in the Abyssal Forest with the Slayer now venturing into the Ancestral Forge. Inside, you’ll find Commander Thira and your first Shield Rune, alongside many hidden locations carrying everything from Collectible Toys to Codex entries. Doom The Dark Ages Chapter 9 Secret Areas
There are nine secret areas in Doom The Dark Ages Chapter 9. In terms of rewards, you’re looking at Rubies, a Codex entry, and an adorable Toy. So, here’s where to find them all:
Secret Area 1
Head straight from the starting point and find a locked door on the right. It sits barely 50 meters away from the start point, and the entrance is also lit up by torches, making it all but unmissable. You’ll need to find the Secret Key to unlock it, so refer to our guide to discover its location.
You’ll find a Wolf Statue inside, which can be demolished to advance the Wraithstone puzzle. The level features three other Wolf Statues, so check out our guide to find them all. While you’re at it, why not take a look at all the Wraithstone locations in the game as well?
Secret Area 2
There’s another locked door nearby that requires the same key to be accessible. Its location is close to the spot where the secret key is located.
Secret Area 3
The third secret sits on the right side of the map, close to the Ancestral Heart. Refer to the image above to gauge its appearance. You’ll also be ambushed by an Arachnotron enemy here, which should let you know you’re in the right spot. Once you’re there, look for a wooden platform smeared in green slime; right above it, you’ll find a green skeleton you can fling the shield towards. After doing so, leap towards it and you’ll land in the hidden area.
Secret Area 4
The next secret area is near the last one. Drop down from the platform and keep heading straight until you find a wooden platform serving as a mini-bridge. Walk towards the edge and jump to the lower level to discover the fourth location.
Secret Area 5
The first main objective is to task the Slayer by pulling three levers to charge up the Ancestral Heart. Since the map is essentially split into three parts, players can pursue the levers in any order they want.
But for this secret, use the map above to navigate to the lever on the western side of the map. Now, look directly to the right, and you’ll find a ledge leading to a locked door. Jump towards the ledge and interact with the door to unlock a simple platforming puzzle. Complete it, and you’ll find a Vagary Collectible Toy at the end.
Secret Area 6
While venturing through the mining facility on the western edge of the Forge, head towards the location as seen on the map above. What you’re looking for are armor pickups next to a massive statue. Follow the trail to the edge, and look downwards to find a discreet wooden platform. Jump down to discover another secret area and collect a Codex page.
Secret Area 7
All the remaining secrets are located inside the underground level of the Forge, so you’ll have to progress the main objective until you get there. Once you do, head straight, fight through the demon horde, and you’ll spot a destructible wall on the left.
The wall sits just beyond the metal gate with the Ruby Statue tucked inside. Break through the wall, throw your shield at the chained counterweight, and you’ll then be able to collect the upgrade item.
Secret Area 8
Push through into the Forge until you reach the narrow platforms flanked by metallic objects on both sides. At the end of the initial platform, turn left and use the levitating platform to get to the other side. Keep heading forward until you reach the edge of this mini area, and look below to find a discreet path. Descend down to it, and go into the secret opening to tick this location off the list.
Secret Area 9
Climb to the top of the same platform and look straight above to find a red chain counterweight indicator. Now, jump to the very last platform in that direction, there’s a left shield icon on the left side of it. Once your shield touches the blue indicator, the platform will begin rising. Now, jump forward towards the scalable platform placed right in front.
From there, look to the right to find a green skeleton to throw your shield towards. After leaping to it, you’ll find another green skeleton, which has the secret question mark floating in front of it. So jump to it to grab a Super Shotgun Weapon Skin.
