Doom The Dark Ages Chapter 8 sees the Slayer maraud his way to the mystical Ancestral Forge by traversing its verdant woodland exterior. The path to the forge is packed with demons of all shapes and sizes, alongside a plethora of Secret Areas, of course. Finding these can always be tricky if you’re not sure exactly where to look. So, to help you find these hidden locations, we’ve put together a guide on all secret areas in Doom The Dark Ages Chapter 8 Abyssal Forest.
Doom The Dark Ages Chapter 8 Secret Areas
Doom The Dark Ages Chapter 8 features a total of 11 secret areas. Unlike chapters six and seven, this level is more tightly packed, so some hidden locations are close to others. On that note, here are all the secret areas:w
Secret Area 1
After landing in the forest, keep heading forward until you break the shield barrier. You’ll then come across two branching paths. Take the one on the right and follow it to the end until you can jump across to the other side. Follow the trail of gold pickups, and eventually, you’ll discover the first secret area near the edge of a cliff.
Secret Area 2
While fighting through the demon horde near the barracks, look for a path that leads to a lower level on the left. Follow the trail of gold pick-ups again, and then turn left to discover the hidden location. You’ll need to swim to get to its opposite side, but once you do, use the jump pad to land right in front of the many Ruby locations.
Secret Area 3
In the final stretch of the barracks, look for a breakable wall camouflaged within tangled branches. Hurl your shield at it to discover the secret area and collect a Codex entry.
Secret Area 4
Within the same section, you’ll end up on the other side of the forest after using a shield jump point. Once you’re here, head towards the right and jump down, then turn around to find a breakable wall. This one has a gold cache hiding inside.
Secret Area 5
While following the main objective, you’ll come across an open area with a central pillar wrangled by a gore-tentacle. Once you’re here, turn left, pace forward, and jump onto the lower level. Now, jump across the gap and follow the trail of gold pick-ups to the secret area.
Inside, you’ll find a red counterweight on the right. Hurl your shield at it to expose the gear system sitting just beside it. Throw your shield at the blue indicator to open the central contraption, and grab the Witch Toy for your hard work.
Secret Area 6
There’s a trail of gold pickups sitting just in front of the Collectible Toy. Follow it and break the shield barrier to return to the open area we mentioned earlier. Now, move towards the scalable platform on the left, and make a sharp right once you spot a climbable box leading to a platform. Climb it and complete the simple platforming challenge to reach the sixth secret area.
Secret Area 7
Jump down from the platform and move towards the statue as seen in the image above. Throw your shield at the red counterweight to unlock an underground path right before the statue. Jump inside to grab some gold and tick another secret area off the checklist.
Secret Area 8
Follow the main objective until you’re on a platform with three cannons. Look just beyond them to find a trail of gold pickups. Follow it all the way through to discover a Ruby.
Secret Area 9
Now jump down from the site of the Ruby Statue, and head towards the edge on the right. Peek beyond it and you’ll be able to spot a path leading to a lower level. A metal gate sits at the end, and you can find its counterweight by glancing towards its left-hand side. Destroy it using your shield to unlock the hidden area.
Secret Area 10
On the way to the Mine Entrance, you’ll need to blow open a gate with overgrown branches using a turret. After doing so, keep going forward until you descend onto a lower level. Make a 180-degree turn immediately after landing to find the penultimate secret area.
Secret Area 11
As part of the main objective, you’ll acquire a Grenade Launcher towards the tail end of the mission. Take the exit gate on the left once you do, and defeat the demons who are too eager to be your guinea pigs.
Keep glancing to the left as you move forward, and you’ll find an unmissable streak of green slime, pointing towards a shield jump point. Fling your shield at it and leap towards it. Now, keep heading forward and you’ll arrive at the final secret area.
