Apex Legends arrived earlier this year, building on the popular battle royale genre by offering a number of exciting new features. It was an instant hit as all streamers and casual gamers jumped into King’s Canyon to become the champions. But, all the hype around Apex Legends quickly diminished as server issues cropped up and content felt lacking.
Now, Apex Legends is prepping itself to regenerate interest with the addition of a new limited-period solo mode. Yes, instead of jumping into the action with 2 other players, you’ll finally have the chance to venture into the wilderness of King’s Canyon alone. It sounds fun, doesn’t it? The whole map and all its resources all to yourself – only for a couple of weeks though.
Apex Legends broke this news via an official tweet announcing the arrival of the ‘Iron Crown Collection Event,’ which runs from August 13 up until August 27.
At the moment, Apex Legends developer Respawn has only announced the limited-time solo mode and additional details for the mode are missing. The event can be seen as an experiment to see how players respond to solo games, especially since most of the nifty features like ping or revival will be useless without teammates.
There’s a lot of unanswered questions around the upcoming solo mode. Would Apex be adding unique features? Would it increase the player pool to 100? Respawn Community manager Jay Frechette took to Reddit to say, “We’ll talk more about Solos when it’s live and you’ve had a chance to play it. For now, we’re going to put it out there and see what happens and what kind of feedback we get.”
Next week could surely see a surge in Apex Legends’ playtime and viewership online as many would hop into the game to become the champion. Gamers have been requesting Respawn a solo mode to the game for quite some time. And well, they might have their wishes answered with a permanent solo mode down the road – only if their limited-time solo mode turns out to be a success.
