iPhone 15 and 15 Plus with Dynamic Island and 48MP Cameras Unveiled

iphone 15 launched

At the ‘Wonderlust’ hardware launch event, Apple finally announced the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus, alongside the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max variants. Many of the rumors ended up true, such as Apple ditching the notch design and moving all iPhones towards the ‘dynamic island’ design. Let’s take a look at the details.

iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus: Specs & Features

The iPhone 15 has now got the Dynamic Island on the base iPhone 15 variants, which is a much-welcome change. The previous-gen iPhone 14 & 14 Plus featured the notch style, which now looks quite dated in comparison to the brand-new iPhone 15 & 15 Plus.

Dynamic Island makes the front design of all new iPhone 15 models. This new design feature will definitely tempt many to upgrade to the latest iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 Plus, the latter supporting a better battery life too. Both these phones feature Super Retina XDR displays that have OLED panels, with the iPhone 15 being sized at 6.1-inch and the iPhone 15 Plus having a bigger, 6.7-inch display. These come with up to 2000 nits of brightness. The refresh rate for the non-pro iPhone 15 & 15 Plus models remains at 60Hz. The back of the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus now features a frosted design and is curved.

iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus features

Talking about the performance, Apple has put the last-gen iPhone 14 Pro’s SoC, the A16 Bionic. Just like the previous-gen Pro model, the iPhone 15 & iPhone 15 Plus also has support for Wi-Fi 6. Both the iPhone 15 models sport a Type-C port, a long-awaited change that the EU laws forced Apple to adopt. One thing to note here is that this Type-C port is a USB 2.0 speed one, which feels like crippling the device. On the Pro models, a better USB port is given.

As for the cameras, we now see an upgraded 48MP main camera on the iPhone 15 and the 15 Plus models, along with a 12MP ultra-wide lens. Things have leveled up quite well here! It supports Cinematic Mode support at 4K 24FPS, and the quad-pixel sensor combines four pixels into one to create better image quality. Apple introducing next-generation Portrait Photos – you can take Portrait photos simply with the normal camera now. Users will be able to capture the depth data needed to create portrait photos later on in the Photos app.

The iPhone 15 comes with a second-gen UWB chip, iOS 17, an all-day battery life, roadside assistance via satellite, and more. Sadly, these don’t get the new Action button, which is found on the iPhone 15 Pro models.

Price & Availability

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus have been priced starting at $799 and $899, respectively. They will be available in five colorways, including Pink, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Black. We have discussed which are the best iPhone 15 & 15 Pro colors here.

Pre-orders for the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus will begin on September 15 and the phones will be released on September 22.
