As Xiaomi starts rolling out the stable version of their Android 7.0 Nougat-powered MIUI 9 update, the Chinese giant is now shifting focus to the next Android iteration. The company is said to have signed up a handful of beta users to test the Android 8.0 Oreo update on its flagship Mi 6 device. Let’s take a look at what we already know about this update.

Earlier in November, we had heard chatter that Xiaomi was looking for testers to check out its Android 8.0 Oreo update and provide some initial feedback. The company was specifically in search of Mi 6 device owners who were interested in being part of a closed beta test group.

But, Xiaomi has now officially announced the program and started testing Android Oreo update with a handful of Mi 6 phone users. The company plans to test the Oreo build with the beta testers for around a month to iron out most of its kinks before releasing the same to developer channels.

Xiaomi is currently testing out its Android 8.0 Oreo build on their flagship Mi 6, but we can expect the said update to roll out to more devices in the coming months. Mi Mix 2 and Mi Note 3 users may be the fortunate ones to get to try out the Android Oreo update after Mi 6. Android Oreo will bring a slew of new features such as picture-in-picture mode, notification dots, Autofill and many others.

Xiaomi invested a lot of time perfecting their user experience for the major MIUI 9 update, but it is now occupying itself with developing their Android Oreo release for the masses. It might be behind schedule, which Xiaomi has usually been, as compared to other hardware makers but the news of the Android Oreo beta tests is a positive indication that the update could reach users very soon. What are your expectations for Xiaomi’s Android Oreo update? Will it be MIUI 10? Tell us your opinion in the comments.
