When her friends are held back, Abby decides to go on alone but gets trapped by a horde of infected. It was natural that Abby felt the desire for revenge after she lost her father, a surgeon for Fireflies. However, Abby’s revenge neither balances the scales nor fills the void left by her father’s demise in The Last of Us Part 2.

Killing Joel mercilessly didn’t bring her the closure she thought instead, it kicked off the gruesome cycle of violence between her and Ellie. However, Abby does begin to notice her kind temperament fading away as she begins to lean more towards violence.

Abby’s life is changed when she meets the kids Lev and Yara who escaped from the Seraphite cult. She soon begins to find her true self again when she decides to protect these kids from the people who are hunting them. Although Abby finds her path to redemption, Ellie taking down her friends eventually makes Abby return to her ruthless nature.

However, Lev is here this time to stop her from spiraling down in vengeance, and the kid reminds her of who she truly is when a fight breaks down between her and Ellie. So, she decides to let go of Ellie again for the second time and truly redeems herself after this moment. Later, Abby tries to find the remaining Fireflies in other regions and bring them together, but she gets caught by the Rattlers.

Ellie, who returns to get revenge again, saves them from the Rattlers initially, however, her mind won’t let her set Abby completely free. Thus, they both get into a brutal fistfight at the shore, and it ends with Ellie finally breaking the cycle of violence.

Ellie redeems herself by putting her hatred aside and letting Abby leave with Lev to start a new life. As a result, Abby survives at the end of The Last of Us Part 2, but we do not get to see if she joins the Fireflies.
