Google has delivered the best open AI models with the Gemma 3 release. The Gemma 3 27B model outperforms much larger models such as DeepSeek V3 671B and Llama 3.1 405B models.
Google has released its latest open-source model called Gemma 2 27B. Until now, Meta ruled the open-source space with its Llama family of models. So in this article, I have compared Gemma 2 27B with Llama 3 70B to evaluate their prowess in a variety of tasks. Despite a much smaller size, Gemma 2 27B performs well, except in reasoning tests.
Google has announced its upcoming open-source model Gemma 2 and it will be trained on 27 billion parameters. The model will be released in June and Google claims that it can outperform some of the AI models twice its size.
After launching Gemini 1.0 Ultra and Gemini 1.5 Pro in the last few weeks, Google is back with new AI models that are actually open-source. Dubbed "Gemma", these are small open-source models which can run even on consumer laptops. They come in two sizes, one with 2B parameters and another with 7B parameters. The models are largely trained in the English language and are suited for text generation, summarization, reasoning, and Q&A. Google has given a commercial license to Gemma models subject to certain prohibited use policies.
