Who Is Beru in Solo Leveling?

For those unfamiliar with Beru’s character, he is the reincarnated shadow of the Ant King. The Ant King was the most powerful offspring of the Ant Queen and was Jinwoo’s main adversary in the Jeju Island arc. During the fourth raid on the ant-infested island, the Ant King proved why he was in a league of his own by slaying a total of eight S-Rank hunters.
The Ant King king was the toughest foe Jinwoo faced at this point in the story as the S-Rank killer’s bloodthirst was unmatched. Jinwoo arrived on the island just in time to protect the hunters as he was the only one on the scene capable of handling this monstrous beast.
How Did Beru Become Sung Jinwoo’s Shadow?

Sung Jinwoo going against the Ant King was an epic showdown where the new Shadow Monarch overpowered the strongest ant. When the frightened Ant King took flight, our protagonist just did not let him off the hook. He captured the king and put an end to his never-ending monstrosity by killing him in the end.
As a necromancer, Jinwoo never liked to squander the bodies of the formidable enemies he fought and won against. Once every hunter made it back safely, Jinwoo utilized his shadow extraction skill to resurrect the shadow of the Ant King. He was successful in his attempt and named the Ant King’s shadow — Beru.
If you are wondering why Jinwoo named the Ant King’s shadow Beru, it’s because the name is said to be inspired by the French author Bernard Werber’s book called Empire of the Ants.
Beru Powers and Abilities in Solo Leveling

Beru started as a ‘General Grade’ shadow, the third-highest grade among the shadows. As a loyal pillar of strength, Beru began to increase already world-class powers and eventually attained the ‘Marshal Grade’ status towards the end of the series. That said, here are all of Beru’s powers and abilities we know so far:
Physical Abilities
- Indomitable Strength: Although Beru doesn’t look like a jacked ant, he boasts colossal strength to dominate his opponents in fights. Another one of his unique abilities is that Beru can grow further to amplify his strength.
- Unbreakable Endurance: Beru is also gifted with great levels of durability to take heavy hits and remain fine to a large extent.
- Blazing Speed and Flight: Beru also can move and fly at unreal speeds, thanks to his ant wings. He is a tough character to deal with for his adversaries when he can quickly overwhelm them.
Magical Abilities
- Paralysis Poison: In line with his mother, Ant Queen, Beru can unleash a much more deadly poison attack that can kill people instantaneously.
- Gluttony: This is an incredible skill where Beru can inherit the powers and even knowledge of characters he eats. That’s how he gains the speech ability in the story.
- Healing: Beru is also an expert when it comes to healing. He can heal himself and his allies to full health using his magic. Only a handful of Jinwoo’s shadows have magical healing powers.
While the Ant King startled fans and hunters alike during the Jeju Island raid, his new reincarnated shadow form has earned the Solo Leveling fans’ love with his powers and loyalty.
