One of the most significant military organizations in the One Piece universe right now is the Revolutionary Army. We all know that Luffy’s father, Monkey D. Dragon, is the leader of the organization. Furthermore, due to its recent acts, the notorious Revolutionary Army is currently the subject of much discussion within the One Piece community. The army commanders are going head-to-head against two of One Piece’s strongest admirals. So, it is time for us to examine the Revolutionary Army in detail, including its objectives, members, etc.
Spoiler Warning: This article contains spoilers about the story and the characters that are part of the Revolutionary Army in One Piece. We recommend you to watch the anime or read the manga first to avoid ruining the intended experience.
Who Are the Revolutionary Army in One Piece?
- Japanese Name: Kakumei Gun
- Debut: Episode 52, Manga Chapter 100
- Supreme Commander: Monkey D. Dragon
- Main Ship: Wind Granma
- Total Bounty: At least 2,564,000,000 Berries
Here is a quick overview of the organization wreaking havoc in the Egghead Arc (one of the best arcs in One Piece). As the name indicates, the Revolutionary Army is a formidable military force commanded by their supreme commander, Monkey D. Dragon. They were previously known as the Freedom Fighters (which was cool as well).
Immediately after the Ohara event, Dragon, Emporio Ivankov, and Bartholomew Kuma founded this organization. Their main objective is to topple the World Government and revolt against its oppressive authority. The Revolutionary Army is also utterly opposed to the World Nobles/ Celestial Dragons because they abuse the weaker people by taking advantage of this World Government’s power.
Thus, as the rebellious leader of this organization, Monkey D. Dragon is known as the World’s Most Wanted Criminal in One Piece. Due to their actions, they used to have a secret headquarters on the island of Baltigo. But after the raid of Blackbeard Pirates there, they switched their base to Momoiro Island, home of the Kamabakka Kingdom.
Revolutionary Army Flag
Just like how the pirates have their Jolly Rogers in One Piece, the Revolutionary Army has its own flag. This striking red flag is simple in its design. As a reference to their supreme commander, there is a dragon insignia at the center surrounded by the letters R & A, which signifies the organization’s name.

Revolutionary Army Ranking System (High to Low)
The Revolutionary Army has a hierarchically structured ranking system like the Marines in One Piece. Here’s a quick look at the ranking system within the Revolutionary Army.
Top Leadership
As mentioned above, this organization is led by Monkey D. Dragon as the supreme commander. He holds the topmost authority as their leader, but he has a well-known character as his number 2.
Much like how every Pirate captain has a right-hand man, Dragon chose Sabo as his “No. 2” in the Revolutionary Army. Sabo holds the Chief of Staff position and is the second most powerful person in authority after Dragon.
Names Roles Monkey D. Dragon Supreme Commander (Leader) Sabo Chief of Staff (No. 2)
Army & Deputy Commanders
Next in line, in terms of power and authority, we have the Army Commanders. Depending on the geological structure of the One Piece world, the Revolutionary Army is split into five armies led by their Army Commanders and their assistants Deputy Commanders (much like Captains and Vice Captains in the Marines).
Together, these armies are scattered across the seas to revolt against the corrupt World Government by setting the lands free under their reign. These five Army and Deputy Commanders are as follows:
Army Units Army Commander Deputy Commander Location North Army Karasu Jiron North Blue South Army Lindbergh Gambo South Blue East Army Ginny (Former), Belo Betty (Current) Ahiru East Blue West Army Morley Ushiano West Blue G-Army Emporio Ivankov Inazuma Grand Line
It has been confirmed that Kuma was a previous army commander in the Revolutionary Army who served in an army that is currently unknown.
Officers
Under the supervision of the Army and Deputy Commanders, we have officers in the Revolutionary Army in One Piece. Their role is to assist the superiors in battle and manage other operations of the organization. Some of the well-known officers are:
