In One Piece Chapter 1126, we visited the Blackbeard Pirates on Hachinosu Island, who are on the move to claim the One Piece treasure. During their group discussion, Aokiji, aka Kuzan, confirmed the current status of Monkey D. Garp, who we had been worried about since their clash.
Aokiji, one of the Titanic captains of the Blackbeard Pirates, fought against his mentor Garp in the Egghead. Garp had to sacrifice himself to save the rest of his Marine squad. When we last saw Garp, he was in a completely frozen state, the result of the devil fruit powers of his pupil.
Consequently, Garp’s exact condition, whether Luffy’s grandfather is dead or alive, wasn’t revealed until Chapter 1126. However, in the latest chapter, Aokiji confirmed that Garp was still alive.
Aokiji also remarked that he was aiming for the kill, but Garp survived in the end. While Blackbeard was disappointed with Koby’s escape, capturing Garp, which is an even bigger fish, was a wonderful consolation prize for them.
