Darkwing was a superhero from Midnight City who joined the Guardians of the Globe to fight against crimes. But he was also murdered by Omni-Man when he wiped out the entire superhero team at the beginning of the series. Like how Batman had Nightwing, Darkwing also had a sidekick named Nightboy.

In the absence of his mentor, Nightboy carried on his legacy by becoming the second Darkwing, aka Darkwing 2, in the story. The death of the original Darkwing took a heavy toll on Nightboy. Nevertheless, he followed in the footsteps of his mentor to combat crimes in Midnight City.

Now that you have learned who was the original Darkwing and how his assistant became his successor as Darkwing II in Invincible, it’s time to learn about his psychopathic nature. As I mentioned before, the loss of Darkwing severely affected the mental health of Nightboy. Therefore, after he became Darkwing 2, he began to kill criminals.

Darkwing II’s morality and ideals were completely shattered when he lost his mentor in a tragedy. Now, this is no excuse for him to go on a killing spree and his bloodlust didn’t stop. However, his actions were later found out by Mark Grayson in Invincible Season 2.

Invincible and Darkwing 2 fought in season 2 and the latter managed to trap the Invincible in the shadowverse. At the end, Invincible defeated Nightwing 2 with a karate chop and handed him over to Cecil.

Mark wanted Darkwing II to be imprisoned for the grievous acts he committed in the name of fighting for justice.

While Invincible thought Cecil locked up Darkwing II when they caught him, he was released to work for him in reality. Thus, when Darkwing II was sent to rescue the superheroes from Doc Seismic, Mark was infuriated that he was roaming free without getting punished for killing people.

Mark, aka Invincible, is a strict follower of the no-killing rule, and he couldn’t let this slide. It wasn’t just Darkwing II as Cecil employed D.A. Sinclair (another villain from season 1). Cecil went to extreme lengths to reform criminals to protect the planet no matter what. So it was a clash of ideals between Cecil and Mark. Mark wanted Darkwing II to pay for his crimes, and that is why he was so against him in the events of Invincible season 3.

Having said that, do you agree with Invincible or do you think Cecil is right to give them a second chance? Let us know in the comments below.
