What Happened in HOTD Season 2 Episode 3?

The third episode of HOTD Season 2, Rhaenyra gets the Cargyll brothers buried together. Rhaenys tells her she believes that Otto Hightower doesn’t have any clue about this. She continues saying that the younger men only know how to kill, and soon they will forget about the primary reason for the war. She suggests Rhaenyra to approach Alicent and talk about it.

In the small council meeting, we see Aegon, Alicent, and Cole talking about the upcoming war. Aemond is also present and this is, of course, a new development in the story. Later, Cole heads toward Harrenhal with his army, leaving Aemond and Vhagar behind to look after the Red Keep. Larys Strong, who has been playing dirty games from the very beginning, continues to plant seeds in Aegon’s ears.

After reaching Harrenhal, Daemon’s guilt makes him hallucinate a young Rhaenyra sitting with the dead Jahaerys, trying to stitch the child’s head with the body. The next moment he meets a woman named Alys Rivers, who says that he will die in this place.

Towards the end, we see Rhaenyra visiting Kings Landing to talk to Alicent in order to prevent the war. Here, she confronts Alicent for the claim of the throne. To which, Alicent says King Viserys said on his deathbed that Aegon will be The Prince That Was Promised, a theory we’ve previously heard in Game of Thrones. Rhaenyra replies to Alicent that it was a story that his father used to tell her in childhood and he was not talking about Aegon (Alicent’s son). Alicent realizes her mistake but says “it’s too late”.

Now, Rhaenyra has decided that there is no other way but Dance of Dragons, which is what we’ll see in House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 4.
