Everything Announced at D23 Expo 2024: New Pixar Movies, Daredevil Born Again & More

This is the time of year when we get to see the teasers and trailers for the Disney films that we love. As the D23 expo got underway earlier today, fans were treated to a plethora of fresh announcements as well as teasers and videos of new and returning projects. If you have been anticipating D23, read on to learn about all the announcements that were made today at the D23 expo.

1. Mufasa: The Lion King Trailer

A stunning new trailer for Mufasa: The Lion King, a prequel to The Lion King (2019). This brand-new prequel explores the life story of Mufasa i.e., how an orphaned lion became the Lion King. While Jon Favreau helmed the first part, Academy Award Barry Jenkins took the baton to deliver the prequel. The youthful incarnations of Scar and Mufasa are played by Kelvin Harrison Jr. and Aaron Pierre. The production team has brilliantly kicked up the CGI quality by a notch and we can’t wait to witness a breathtaking experience on December 20, 2024.

2. Daredevil: Born Again Trailer

Daredevil: Born Again is the most anticipated Marvel series right now and it was confirmed to be a remake of the previous Daredevil by Netflix. The entire cast of the blockbuster show such as Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, and Jon Bernthal is confirmed to reprise their roles in the show. A new trailer for season 1 was showcased at D23 today (for the audience) and new characters have been unveiled such as Muse (main villain), White Tiger, etc.

3. Wizards Beyond Waverly Place

A new sequel to the Selena Gomez starrer ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ has been announced titled ‘Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.’ At D23 today, an exclusive first look inside the sets of the sequel series was showcased. Selena Gomez and David Henrie are set to return for the sequel. The sets have successfully retained and captured the theme of the prequel show which became a hit in the 2000s.

4. Monster Jam movie

Dwayne Johnson isn’t just returning as Maui in Disney’s Moana 2 as he is confirmed to have a new movie under the Disney banner. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is set to direct and star in a new Disney movie titled “Monster Jam” and yes! the story revolves around monster trucks and their drivers!

5. Moana 2

This Thanksgiving, get ready to witness the sea adventures of Moana and Maui again after 8 years. Ahead of its release this November, Disney treated the fans with a new trailer for Moana 2 starring Dwayne Johnson, Auli’i Cravalho, and others. Moana answers the ocean’s call again to achieve a new goal as the Wayfinder this time along with the demigod Maui of course. The trailer is packed with exuberant visuals and we can’t wait to set sail with them in November.

6. Avatar: Fire and Ash

After the success of Avatar: The Way of Water, we knew the third installment was imminent and the official title for the third part has been revealed today at D23. James Cameron’s next magnum opus is confirmed to be released on December 19, 2025, and a few concept art of the movie were shared with the fans. After exploring the Pandoran oceans, we are now set to meet fire Na’vi kingdom in the next installment.

7. Dream Production – An Inside Out Spinoff

Pixar’s latest installment “Inside Out 2” is one of the blockbusters of 2024 and shattered the box-office records set by fellow animated works. Thus, upon seeing the massive success of the Inside Out franchise, Disney has given the green signal to produce a new spinoff series titled “Dream Productions” set in the Inside Out universe. This animated show is scheduled to release on Disney+ in 2025.

8. Win or Lose

After dominating the animated movie medium, Pixar is set to step into the realm of TV series with their debut work titled “Win or Lose.” A new teaser for the original series was revealed today at D23 and its official synopsis is “Win or Lose follows the intertwined stories of eight different characters as they each prepare for their big championship softball game.” Thus, get ready for an emotional ride to be in the shoes of multiple characters in Pixar’s new venture.

9. Toy Story 5

There is no end to the Toy Story franchise as Disney and Pixar surprised the fans at D23 today with a teaser for the fifth installment in the franchise which was announced last year. Our OG toys gang featuring Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and all others are set to return for a new adventure in the world of technology. Andrew Stanton, the director of renowned Pixar works such as Wall-E, Finding Nemo, etc is directing the movie. Toy Story 5 is scheduled to release in summer 2026.

10. Hoppers

Pixar Studios is back with another new project titled “Hoppers”, a body-swap movie which is directed and written by the creator of ‘We Bare Bears’, Daniel Chong. Jon Hamm, Bobby Moynihan, and Piper Curda are confirmed to lend their voices to the characters of action and comedy-packed movie.

11. Incredibles 3

Pixar just announced at D23 that the beloved superhero family is returning for a new mission to save the world in Incredibles 3. The third installment in the superhero ‘Incredible’ franchise is officially in production now. Thus, stay tuned for more updates about Incredible 3 shortly.

12. Zootopia 2

Are you ready for a new adventure with Judy and Nick in the city of anthropomorphic animals? Disney Animation staff has shared with us a first look at Zootopia 2 today at D23. While we exactly don’t know how events are going to unfold in the second installment, Disney has confirmed that the movie is set to premiere in November 2025.

13. Frozen 3

Gear up to head back to the kingdom of Arendelle as Disney has officially announced the third installment in the Frozen franchise. A fresh concept art that shows Elsa, her sister Anna, and Olaf riding separate horses across a river has been revealed. The movie is confirmed to premiere in 2027. This new animated musical “Frozen 3” will once again feature the adventures of Elsa and Anna along with their friends.

14. Andor Season 2

While the recent lineups of Star Wars were a hit or miss, Andor, the prequel to “Rogue One” was loved by fans and critics alike when it came out. We knew a season 2 was on the cards and a lot of new details regarding season 2 were shared today at D23. For every three episodes, there will be a time leap of one year in the plot, which spans four years to connect with the timeline of Rogue One at the end. Ben Mendelsohn is back as Director Krennic and Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera respectively. Alan Tudyk will be once again lending his voice to K-2SO. Finally, it is confirmed that the second season of the series will debut in 2025.

15. Madalorian & Grogu

After season 3 of The Mandalorian was released in 2023, the bounty hunters team is heading to the silver screens now with The Mandalorian and Grogu movie. This is the first Star Wars motion picture based on a Disney+ series to be screened in theatres in May 2026. Jon Favreau confirmed the shooting works for the movie began only a few weeks ago and a small teaser was shown to the fans featuring the news adventures of the bounty hunter in newer planets. Thus, get ready for the crazy adventures of The Mandalorian (played by Pedro Pascal) along with his tiny pupil Grogu on bigger screens in 2026.

16. Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2

The first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians was well-received by the fans and critics alike and that led to the second season renewal. The demigod Percy Jackson returns in the second season on a mission to stop the war between Olympian Gods. As revealed at the D23 expo today, season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians is scheduled to be released in 2025 and will be available to stream on Disney+

17. Snow White

The Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is one of the classics from the 1930s that is still being adored by fans today. Disney’s Snow White is the live-action adaptation of their iconic animated musical fantasy starring Rachel Zegler, Gal Gadot, Andrew Burnap, etc. A refreshing trailer of the live-action was unveiled today and it looks absolutely magnificent. Prepare for an exceptional trip to the magical forest in this live-action adaptation of a fairy tale coming out on March 21, 2025.
