Batman Beyond Film Concept Art Has Me Drooling, And I Want It for Real!

In Short
  • Yuhki Demers, one of the visual artists for the Spider-verse movies, posted a concept art for a Batman Beyond animated feature film on X (Twitter).
  • The concept art is breathtaking and features a futuristic cyberpunk-ish Gotham with Batman and a potential villain for the feature film.
  • This Beyond movie has been pitched by Yuhki Demers and his team at Warner Bros. and has not been greenlit yet.

It’s no secret that James Gunn is building a brand new DCU from scratch, and he is currently on the lookout for a new Batman. However, according to Lego Batman, DC is the “house that Batman built” so is there a limit to how much Batman we can have from the new DC?

In a piece of recent news, one of the visual developers for the highly acclaimed Spider-man Into the Spider-Verse and Across the Spider-Verse, Yuhki Demers took to X (formerly Twitter) and posted three concept art images for a Batman Beyond animated feature film, and guys, the images instantly gave me a serious “Holy Sh*t” moment.

Demers in his tweet revealed that he was part of a larger team with Patrick Harpin (known for My Dad the Bounty Hunter) that pitched the idea for aBeyond Movie to Warner Bros. for a full-fledged animated flick. In the X post where Demers shared the Batman Beyond concept art images, he also wrote a statement saying:

Before we pitched, they warned us “there is absolutely no way we can do a Beyond movie,” but they loved our enthusiasm. We pitched the outline for the entire film, and what started as a ‘never’ turned into a ‘maybe’ – Yuhki Demers

As of now, the pitching of Batman Beyond movie is still in its initial stages but since Warner Bros. kind of liked the pitch, there is a possibility that we can see an official announcement soon.

Batman Beyond Movie: DC’s Potential Spider-verse?

Keeping that aside, it is not difficult to make out that the concept has strong inspirations from the Spider-verse movies but gives it a darker and grittier tone to fit the aura of a Batman movie. It also features an excellent modern take on the futuristic Gotham City last seen in the age-old and nostalgic Batman animated series voiced by the legendary Batman voice actor, Kevil Conroy, giving it a very Cyberpunk-ish feel.

I’m literally sitting here with my eyes gleaming as I look at this concept art. Looking at the Batman Beyond concept art, I feel like a child on Halloween day who is seen daydreaming and drooling just thinking about all the candy he’s about to get. I want this Batman Beyond animated feature film to become a reality, actually, and for good reason.

If you have been following DC animated movies, you already know that when it comes to animated flicks, DC never misses. However, it has been a long while since such a film by DC Studios became a theatrical spotlight like the Spider-verse movies did.

Looking at the concept art for the Batman Beyond feature film, I feel that if Warner Bros. greenlit this project, DC can become a theatrical spotlight for an animated flick once again.

However, I don’t know if you guys noticed, Demers could have possibly revealed the villain of this movie with the concept art images. Who, you ask? Read on to find out!

If you look closely at the first out of the three images shared on X, you can see that a black, gooey Venom-like figure is chasing Batman. Now before you guys start saying, “Hey, did they just copy Venom?” No, they did not.

This character is called “Inque” and was first seen in the Batman Beyond Issue #6 running from 1999-2000. This was one of the first villains that Batman faced in the series.

This tells us two things, firstly, if Warner Bros. makes it happen, the Batman Beyond film will have Inque as either the main villain or one of the villains. Secondly, since Inque is one of the first villains Batman faced in Batman Beyond, this could either be an origin story or follow the same pattern as Robert Pattinson’s The Batman followed, that is, showing us a rather younger Batman.
