How to Watch Avengers Movies in Order

In Short
  • The first Avengers movie was released in 2012 and brought together Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, and Hawkeye.
  • There are a total of four Avengers movies that have been released so far, with two more yet to be released.
  • Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars are set to be released in 2026 and 2027.

Back in 2012, Marvel Studios presented us with one of the most iconic superhero teams ever seen on the big screen. The Avengers made its debut by bringing iconic Marvel superheroes, such as Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, and Hawkeye together, and the rest is history. The Avengers developed such a serious fan base that a whole series of movies were made following the first one. So, in this article, we will talk about the order in which you should watch all the Avengers movies.

1. The Avengers (2012)

Cast: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Clark Gregg, Paul Bettany, Cobie Smulders, Jeremy Renner, Gwyneth Paltrow

4 May 2012
IMDb/Rotten Tomatoes: 8/91%

After X-Men movies made superhero teams extremely popular, The Avengers proved to be a worthy successor to the legacy set by Charles Xavier and his X-Men. In 2012, Marvel brought together some of its most popular superheroes bringing to life the live-action adaptation of the Avengers.

The dynamic set between Captain America and Tony Stark, the ferocity of Hulk, and well, the bond between Hawkeye and Black Widow became some of the defining factors of the MCU over time.

The Avengers not only brought us an incredible superhero team but also introduced us to one of the most loved villains of all time, Loki Laufeyson. Loki not only managed to develop arguably the best character arc but also turned into the most important hero of the MCU by the end of the Loki series.

2. Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)

Cast: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Clark Gregg, Scarlett Johansson, Cobie Smulders, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Thomas Kretschmann, Don Cheadle, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, James Spader
Release Date: 1 May, 2015
IMDb/Rotten Tomatoes: 7.3/ 76%

Age of Ultron falls second when we talk about watching the Avengers movies in order. This movie was the second instance where we got to see the team of Avengers come together. However, this time the enemy was not a god or an outworldly being, but an out-of-control artificial intelligence created by none other than Stark himself.

Age of Ultron saw the fall of Jarvis when he was technically “erased” by Ultron and also witnessed the rise of Vision as a new hero in the MCU.

The only complaint I have with Avengers Age of Ultron was their treatment of Quicksilver. Peter Maximoff had the capability of turning into one of the most powerful Avengers, but he was nerfed drastically. Imagine giving a hero with the powers of superspeed, and he couldn’t outrun a bullet? Pretty dumb in my opinion. Quicksilver deserved better than that.

3. Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

Cast: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Jeremy Renner, Chris Evans, Elizabeth Olsen, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Paul Rudd, Mark Ruffalo, Chadwick Boseman, Don Cheadle, Josh Brolin, Tom Holland, Evangeline Lilly, Paul Bettany.
Release Date: 27 April 2018
IMDb/Rotten Tomatoes: 8.4/85%

Avengers Endgame was easily one of the most traumatizing movies for almost every Marvel fan. Thanos finally attacked Earth in this movie and even though the Avengers put up quite a fight against him and his forces, they ended up losing this war.

Thanos successfully snapped his fingers and made half the population just vanish into thin air. A lot of our favorite characters were among the ones who disappeared. If you didn’t almost cry seeing the interaction between Iron Man and Spider-Man after the snap, I would say you can face anything life throws at you.

4. Avengers: Endgame (2019)

Cast: Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie, Tom Holland, Paul Rudd, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Karen Gillan, Evangeline Lilly, Brie Larson, Sebastian Stan, Chadwick Boseman, Josh Brolin, Don Cheadle, Bradley Cooper, Paul Bettany, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner.
Release date: 26 April 2019

IMDb/Rotten Tomatoes: 8.4/ 94%

In Infinity War, the movie ended with the Avengers losing against Thanos. However, can our heroes just give up? In Endgame, the Avengers were reduced to only a handful of heroes. To bring back the people who had disappeared, they traveled back in time to recover the Infinity Stones.

They were successful in this mission bringing back the victims of Thanos’ snap and creating the biggest cast of any superhero movie ever. However, this movie was also extremely tragic since it included the deaths of Black Widow and Iron Man.

Upcoming Avengers Movies

5. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (2026)

Release Date: 1 May 2026

TBA

The next project featuring the Avengers is going to be Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. The presence of Kang the Conqueror has been made felt in recent MCU projects. In Ant-Man Quantumania, we saw Kang, played by Jonathan Majors, as the main antagonist for the first time but his true power was made felt in the Loki TV series.

However, Jonathan Majors fell into some legal troubles, which made us anticipate that he wouldn’t be reprising his role as Kang but this anticipation was debunked recently. Moreover, since the SAG-AFTRA strikes are over now, we can expect this movie to go into production anytime now. So, let’s just wait and see what Marvel has in store for us now.

6. Avengers: Secret Wars (2027)

Release Date: 7 May 2027
IMDb/Rotten Tomatoes: TBA

The last known project featuring the Avengers is going to be Secret Wars. Although we do not have much information about the plot or the villain of this movie, there are a lot of talks floating around it.

Some rumors state that Secret Wars might feature Doctor Doom as the main villain with Cillian Murphy being the top choice to play the character. Meanwhile, other rumors say that we might get to see Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man along with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.

Now we don’t know anything for sure and can’t really confirm any of these details before we have a credible source to back this up. However, as far as I think, it would be a delight to see these talented actors on screen together but let’s see what Marvel decides to present us with.

Which Avengers will take part in Secret Wars?

As per rumors, heroes like Captain America, Captain Marvel, the Hulk, Thor, Spider-Man, Hawkeye, Iron Man, She-Hulk, and the Wasp along with teams like The X-Men and The Fantastic Four might appear in Secret Wars.

Will Tony Stark return in Avengers: Secret Wars?

As per certain reports, there is a high possibility of Rober Downey Jr. returning as Iron Man in Avengers: Secret Wars.

Who is the strongest Avenger?

Thor is arguably the strongest member of The Avengers.

Will Chris Evans return as Captain America?

Chris Evans, in a recent report, states that “No one’s spoken to me” about returning as Captain America for future Marvel movies and the reports he has seen about his return are, he says, “News to me”.
